New Hashima Cube / MILS 3D instructions (english)

A while ago, I came across the „New Hashima“ phenomenom and I am very impressed by the idea and the endless possibilities!

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find actually buildable step-by-step instructions (also not on BrickLink) on the net for an empty New Hashima Cube (also called „MILS 3D“ or „MILS Cube“), just some photos or screenshots.

So I made a 3D model in LeoCAD, split it into sub modules and individual building steps, to finally create a full instruction PDF with Stud.io and LibreOffice.

I tried to keep the individual steps as simple as possible. A child from primary school has already built the model from the instructions. A bit of experience is necessary, and also a free, level building area. It is also advisable to „press“ all plates thorougly onto the bricks.

I also tried to make the structure as robust as possible, that’s why the part list is quite long. All joints are built with overlaps, so in theory, there should be no noteworthy weak points. There is definitely room for improvement (or, if you prefer this, also for a less robust and less expensive variant) – I am open to all suggestions and ideas!

As of now, the model requires a lot of visible 1×8 Technic Bricks (3894) which are rather expensive and not available in many colours (e.g. not in Dark Bluish Grey). A version of the cube without this part is work in progress, you will then be able to build it in several other colours.

The 3L Friction Pins (6558 / 42924) are listed in black in the instructions, and I also built the first model in that colour, which drives the cost up significantly. If you can live with blue pins, you should be able to save some Euros.

My version of the New Hashima Cube should be compatible with other existing Cubes, but due to the fact that I don’t have access to existing cubes, I can’t verify that.

The instructions are released under the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license and may be shared and modified according to the terms stated there:

The part list is available as Bricklink XML file as a ZIP archive (due to technical reasons):

I hope you have fun building it! If you have any feedback, field report or suggestions for improvement, I am happy to hear from you!

Update 21 Dec 2025: the instructions for this MOC are now also available on Rebrickable as MOC-244773 – New Hashima Cube 2.0!
